CHALLENGE With plans for a rally at the University of Wisconsin in Madison featuring President Barack Obama, the Democratic National Committee knew it would have special significance. The “Moving America Forward” rally would mark the first time a sitting U.S. president had been to the location since 1950. It was a history-making media event!
SOLUTION Show Department and their production affiliate, Resolution Digital Studios, headed to Madison to provide a multi-camera, live-switched production, and webcast for the event.
Show Department’s crew arrived in Madison a day early to begin preparation. The event took place the following day, Tuesday September 28th at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Library Mall. Weather conditions for the thousands who were gathered were ideal — a beautiful and chilly fall day.
The event was uplinked in both high definition as well as standard definition. The feed was downlinked and encoded back at Resolution for distribution via the internet.
Appearances by other noted guests included: Russ Feingold, U.S. Senator from the state of Wisconsin; Mayor Tom Barrett of Milwaukee; Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin; and musician Ben Harper.
